Celebrating the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival
On the night of 3 September 2019, the school canteen saw a hive of activities organised by the Parents Support Group (PSG) to mark the celebration of the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival. The Principal, Mr Ng, started the event by thanking the PSG for organising the event and welcoming parents for taking the time to bond with their children.  After which parents and students were busy making and designing their lanterns, children taking the “Guessing the Couplets Riddles” Challenge, the Singapore Xiangqi Genral Association introduced the Chinese Chess game and the Hougang Secondary School students gave a lively demonstration of Chinese martial arts - Wushu. The finale was the much anticipated traditional neighbourhood lantern procession led by the PSG team that capped the exciting night. There were smiles all round as everyone walked home with a chess set, moon cake, DIY lantern and unforgettable memories. All thanks to the PSG team, Chinese Language Department and our Parents Liaison colleagues who worked tirelessly to make this family-bonding event a success.

2019 Fathers@School - Sphero Pong

"Ready, Set, Go!"

On Saturday 13 July, 26 pairs of father and child bonded as they learnt together to program Sphero, a software guided ball, to compete in series of fun games. The event was a collaboration among the Family Matters@School (Fathers@School Programme), Parents Support Group (PSG), school’s ICT department and the eSTEM Applied Learning Programme.

In the first game, the Sphero had to be guided by programed commands to roll and land on the bull's eye. Next, the Sphero was used by opposing teams to compete in a hybrid ping-pong game. The teams with the most number of accumulated points laid claim to a basket of goodies. At the end of the day, fathers and children went home with all smiles, a toy and an unforgettable family bonding experience.

2019 PSG Family Brisk Walk@Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park

An enthusiastic group of 255 parents and children of Yio Chu Kang Primary signed up for the PSG-organised Family Brisk Walk at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park on Saturday 4 May 2019. After collecting the complimentary fruits, bottled water and commemorative towels, the families were flagged off by Mr Ng, our principal, at the starting point. Amidst the refreshing lush green surroundings, family members walked along side each other, bonded with one another by encouraging each other to solider on, while having a good morning workout around the park. Thereafter, students of Raffles Institution, belonging to the Ultimate Frisbee CCA group, organised a “learn-to-play” Ultimate Frisbee fun clinic for the family members. The children had a fun time playing with each other. Kudos go to the PSG organizing committee, who had made possible, another collection of wonderful family memories for years to come.

Fathers@School - Laser Tag(30 March)

On 30th March 2019, a cool Saturday morning saw close to 40 pairs of father and child gathered at the school hall to have an exciting round robin laser tag shootout session. For many of the fathers and their children it was their first time playing together as a tag team. The dad and child teams had to strategically work to outlast their opponents. At the end of the day, there were smiles all around with hi-5s as the dads and children shared a memorable full-filled time playing and bonding together.
